Handicapped at Hamburg Airport - mobility service and support

Assistance for travelers with limited mobility is provided by Aviation & Airport Service (AAS) staff. To ensure a smooth process, you must register through your travel agency or airline no later than 48 hours before departure or arrival. Please arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before departure. After check-in or upon arrival, you will be met by AAS staff and, as needed, escorted to the aircraft or to the exit.

Please be sure to indicate your needs when booking your flight with the airline. The airline will forward your request to our service provider, Aviation & Airport Service (AAS), at Hamburg Airport. Without advance notice, we cannot guarantee timely service for travelers with limited mobility.

The following abbreviations are used for international classification for barrier-free flying in order to define the degree of mobility impairment:

WCHR: As a rule, you do not need a wheelchair or only to cover longer distances.
WCHS: You cannot climb stairs, but you can cover short distances on foot.
WCHC: You are always in need of a wheelchair. In the cabin you cannot move around without assistance either.
BLND: You are blind or visually impaired.
DEAF: You are deaf or hard of hearing.
BLND-DEAF: You are blind and deaf.
DPNA: You have cognitive impairment and you need help.

Hamburg Airport is well connected in terms of transport, so that you can travel to and from there without barriers. You have various options for doing this. Use, for example, local public transport (see availability of lifts in the HVV network), a taxi or your own car. Barrier-free parking is also available in all parking lots.

If you are visiting Hamburg Airport in a wheelchair or with another disability, please check in at least two hours before departure. Our staff will notify the Mobility Service of your arrival. You will be met at the agreed-upon location by a representative of Aviation & Airport Service (AAS). Depending on the assistance you have requested, a representative from Aviation & Airport Service (AAS) will assist you all the way to the aircraft.

The mobility service at Hamburg Airport also assists you at security and customs controls if required. Please make sure in advance that your hand luggage does not exceed the permitted size and number of pieces of luggage.

Please also note the liquidity regulations and do not take sharp or pointed objects with you. If you stow prescription medication in your hand luggage, it is advisable to carry the medication form with you.

If you have some time to wait, a representative from Aviation & Airport Service (AAS) will pick you up at an agreed-upon meeting point shortly before departure. You will be escorted to the aircraft and, if necessary, given further assistance all the way to your seat.

If you land at Hamburg Airport, you will be met at the aircraft and, depending on your booked arrangements, taken to baggage claim or to a previously agreed-upon location.
