Federal Police: Passport Control

When you leave or enter a country, you must pass through a passport control when crossing the border. A distinction is made between travel within the Schengen area and travel to or from countries that are not part of the Schengen agreement.

Entry/Exit System: New EU Entry Procedure for Travelers from Non-EU Countries

      New from December 2, 2025

For nationals from non-EU countries traveling to the EU for short stays (up to 90 days), the new digital entry and exit procedure will be mandatory. Instead of passport stamps, travel data, facial recognition, and fingerprints will be collected. The process is simple at the self-service kiosk: place your electronic passport (ePass) on the scanner, have your facial image captured, and scan the fingerprints of your right hand - then proceed to border control for confirmation.

      EasyPass – Automated Border Control

      Fast, convenient, and contactless entry.

EasyPASS is the automated border control system of the Federal Police, making airport security checks quick and easy. Instead of waiting at the counter, you use an electronic gate that automatically checks your passport and face. Here’s how it works: insert your electronic passport (ePass), briefly look into the camera, and once the match is confirmed, the gate opens. EasyPASS is available to all individuals aged 12 and over who are nationals of an EU or EEA country, or Switzerland, travelers with a German residence permit, as well as registered EasyPASS-RTP users from the USA, the UK, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
