Federal Police: Passport Control

When you leave or enter a country, you must pass through a passport control when crossing the border. A distinction is made between travel within the Schengen area and travel to or from countries that are not part of the Schengen agreement.

Valid travel documents are mandatory

Before traveling, we strongly recommend that you check the validity of your travel documents, such as your identity card or passport, or visa or entry permit.

    Quick, easy and modern

    With EasyPASS you can make your border control experience easier at the airport by conveniently doing it yourself. Just scan your electronic travel document (ePassport), glance at the camera – and you’re through border control. The following groups of people can use the EasyPASS system: Third-country nationals aged 12 and over from a member state of the European Union, from a member state of the European Economic Area or from Switzerland.

    Easier border control & reduced waiting time: Third-country nationals aged 12 and over with a German residence permit and electronic passport can now use EasyPASS. Simply approach the EasyPASS system with your passport and follow the instructions on the monitor.

    Passengers wishing to export goods and valuables requiring declaration or large sums of cash from Germany can declare this at the Customs counter in Terminal 1 and apply for export certificates. Customs officers are also available to answer any questions you may have about customs.
