From novels and suspense literature to textbooks, travel guides and children’s literature – the new Pocket Shop has just what Hamburg Airport’s passengers are looking for to read on their travels. The Swedish bookseller chain today opened for business as new tenant of Hamburg Airport’s pop-up store. The Pocket Shop mostly stocks German and English-language paperbacks, but selected hardcover editions are also available. The Pocket Shop will be at Hamburg Airport for about six months.
The modern pop-up store was established at Hamburg Airport near Gate A17 in September 2016. Pop-up stores are shops that are only operated by an individual provider for a limited time, so that the range of shopping options for customers is always changing. The first tenant was Samsonite, offering premium suitcases and bags. After the Pocket Shop, a new tenant will operate the 23-square-metre retail space, bringing change and variety.
“The Pocket Shop is a modern, refreshing shop concept which offers our passengers an even more diverse shopping experience,” says Lutz Deubel, Director of Center Management at Hamburg Airport. “Directly adjacent to the gates, passengers can browse at their leisure and make sure they have the right travel reading. The Pocket Shop is ideal for our pop-up-store, which has been very well received by our customers thanks to the variety it brings.”
“We are very happy to open our first Pocket Shop in Hamburg and look forward to introducing our book-loving service-minded staff to all airport guests”, says Anna Borné Minberger, CEO.
Scandinavian retail meets Hanseatic airport atmosphere
It’s not just Pocket Shop; other Scandinavian brands also appreciate the attractive location benefits of Hamburg Airport. Afficionados of design and lifestyle products can find everything they could ever want in the new Flying Tiger Copenhagen store at Hamburg Airport. And since December 2016, the Danish label Becksöndergaard has also been present at Hamburg Airport in pop-up format, selling scarves, bags, accessories and much more. It’s not only northern German passengers that are enthusiastic about the range. Around 280,000 Danes use Hamburg Airport each year.
New pier atmosphere with Hanseatic accent
The pop-up store is part of Hamburg Airport’s newly designed Pier atmosphere. In recent months, several waiting areas at the gates have been modernised. The new designs have a typical Hamburg touch. And there are new services and added comfort to cater for all sorts of passenger needs. There are alternating quiet zones and technically well-equipped business zones, and bistro tables serve as communicative meeting points. Holidaymakers can relax and read whilst business travellers can work efficiently at the neighbouring business workstations. There are numerous additional power sockets and USB ports for passengers to charge notebooks, tablets, and mobile telephones. The pop-up store has also been designed to reflect the themes of trade, merchant houses and the warehouse district, with a bright and transparent feeling. Typical motifs from the city communicate Hamburg’s unique flair. The pop-up store is also directly integrated with the Gate A17 waiting area, so that passengers can shop in the immediate vicinity of their boarding gate.
