Airport Model Exhibition
The big show of little planes
A miniature version of the fascinating world of aviation – in the Airport Model Exhibition, you will get to see every detail of Hamburg Airport, with all its buildings, taxiways, runways and landing strips, on a scale of 1:500. The night view of the model airport is illuminated by 8000 light-emitting diodes which create a sea of light.
Why does an aeroplane fly? And what exactly happens within the framework of the aircraft handling operations? Airport Model Exhibition visitors learn about various aspects of air traffic, the airport premises and the history of the airport dating back to the era of Zeppelins. Supported by a slide show, the visitor service staff will guide you through the programme, explain the buildings and the processes of take-off and landing as well as technical equipment.
The highlight of the show: model planes take off as if by magic, elegantly rise above the heads of the spectators and fly in circles before starting their approach to landing a short time later.
Duration of the show: approx. 45 minutes
Shows: daily at 10 a.m.,12 noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. without prior booking

Bistro Model Exhibition
A cosy bistro in the foyer of the Airport Model Exhibition offers you an impressive view of the pier and the aprons. Here, you can have a tasty snack and relax while watching the day-to-day airport operations.
Choose from a selection of delicious coffee specialities and enjoy a piece of cake. The bistro offers anything from freshly baked croissants, muffins, donuts, scrumptious snacks and ice lollies to cold and hot beverages.
The bistro is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Enjoy an overview of everything that goes on at Hamburg Airport!
From the panorama terrace of the Model Exhibition, you can see the planes taking off and landing on the runways and watch the countless airliners from all over the world move to their parking positions, where they are met by the handling agents.
Whether major jet aircraft or small private plane – this special atmosphere is bound to impress anyone.
Admission to the panorama terrace adjoining the Model Exhibition is free. Opening hours: daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
