Raise the curtain on the Airport Plaza

Heinemann Duty Free as new brand concept with largest shop space
Marché International offers passengers freshly prepared specialties

The countdown has begun. At the end of November this year, the Airport Plaza will officially open for business. Whilst the various construction work continues apace and fully on schedule, Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport, today announced the largest retail and food & beverage concessionaires in the new Airport Plaza: Heinemann, one of the most significant actors in the international travel retail sector, whose operations at Hamburg Airport will include the largest shop in the Plaza, the 1,400 square metre Heinemann Duty Free shop. Raoul Spanger, a member of the Heinemann executive board, launched the Hamburg company’s new brand profile at the airport. Food & beverage outlets will be operated by Marché International, a division of the Swiss Mövenpick Group. Oliver Altherr, CEO of Marché International, revealed the range of different culinary experiences that awaits passengers in the Airport Plaza’s 1,200 square metre food court.

“With Heinemann and Marché International, we have two global players in the fields of airport retail and airport catering on board – companies with whom we already have a successful partnership. We are convinced that both concepts will be enthusiastically adopted by our passengers. We expect a significant leap in non-aviation revenues from the day the plaza opens,” said Michael Eggenschwiler.

Launch of the new Heinemann Duty Free brand concept in the Airport Plaza
The Duty Free shops in the Airport Plaza will sport a brand new look. The travel market specialist, Heinemann, has developed the concept of Travel Value & Duty Free shops to a completely new level. Under the name “Heinemann Duty Free”, the shops will have a new blue-red-silver logo, clearly distinguishing them from the Travel Value & Duty Free shops at other airports and lending the new shops an independent image. “In future we will offer customers a shopping experience full of surprises, with even better service,” says Raoul Spanger. As an example of the new features, the shop in the Airport Plaza will have service counters where passengers can get information about departure times as well as products, and can also collect purchases pre-ordered online or by telephone.

Marché International building on proven concept of freshness
Marché International will spoil passengers in the Airport Plaza with a number of concepts, including a Marché™ Natural Bakery, a Cindy’s Diner with fresh burgers, a Mövenpick Coffee Bar, a San Pino pizza and salad bar, and a GOSCH Sylt Restaurant (under license). This will make the company the operator of the largest integrated and contiguous airport food court in Europe. Oliver Altherr regards this development as “the result of three years of successful cooperation between Marché International and Hamburg Airport. Marché™ offers passengers the opportunity to eat healthy, even when travelling and under time pressure.” The Marché™ concept is based on consistent freshness and is continually being expanded, for example with the Natural Bakery. The planned new GOSCH outlet in the Airport Plaza has prompted Jürgen Gosch, Managing Director of GOSCH Sylt, to comment that “Hamburg is a very special city. As a northerner, I have always been attracted to the city. I have already opened a branch at the city’s central Hauptbahnhof railway station. With this new branch, GOSCH is now available to people travelling by land, by water and by air.”
